TESTIMONIES
A WAY FORWARD FOR PARISH RENEWAL

"We are not ordained to supervise bricks and mortar and to be managers but to form disciples. We are called to be icons of Christ – preacher, teacher and healer. And I feel for the first time I am really doing this now."

Father Victor Vella

THE FIELDS ARE WHITE WITH THE PROMISE OF HARVEST, BUT WHERE CAN WE FIND THE REAPERS?

"I found the harvest and the reapers in my own backyard"

Monsignor Michael J Eivers

THE JOURNEY OF A PARISH

"I have seen with my own eyes that it is possible for a parish to be a place of Christian discipleship, spiritual nourishment and joy; a base from which we can reach out and invite people in, to give them the opportunity to encounter Jesus."

Kathryn Murrell

"A MUSHROOMING OF NEW MINISTRIES IN THE PARISH"

Father Victor Vella was interviewed for GoodNews magazine and describes his experiences of introducing Parish Evangelisation Cells (PECS) in Orpington and the many fruits that have been witnessed within the Parish as a result

THE IMPACT OF PARISH EVANGELISATION CELLS ON THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS

Holy Innocents' Parish in Orpington, Kent created a short video of cell members describing the Parish Evangelisation Cells and giving testimony on the impact it has had in their lives

FRUITS OF PARISH EVANGELISATION CELLS

Holy Innocents' Parish in Orpington, Kent adopted the Parish Evangelisation Cell System (PECS) model in 2014.

This journey from maintenance to mission - harnessing the gifts of the laity and energising them to evangelise - has opened up many surprising paths and blessings.

These are some of the fruits they have attributed to PECS:

  • Growth in prayer life of cell members

  • Enhancement of the gifts of 'Welcome' and 'Invitation'

  • Existing Parish groups re-energised

  • Mushrooming of new ministries in the Parish

  • Spirit of discipleship and joy in outreach activities

  • Development of a spirit of co-responsibility in the Parish

  • Working with teams in neighbouring Parishes to support new initiatives such as Alpha, Youth Alpha and Life in the Spirit seminars

  • Visiting other Parishes to talk about PECS and give personal testimony
